Dave Winchester is a third-generation plasterer whose life in the trade began at just 16, learning the craft from his father, who had himself been taught by Dave’s grandfather.
He went on to spend around 30 years on the tools, working across domestic, commercial, traditional and specialist plastering, as well as running his own business and supervising others.
After an injury brought his full-time career on the tools to an end, Dave took his experience into Further Education. He joined Burnley College as a plastering lecturer in 2003 and became Programme Leader for Plastering in 2004, helping to train and inspire the next generation of plasterers.
His career has since included lecturing, assessment and quality assurance, involvement with the National Association of Plastering Lecturers, and writing a number of plastering books and training resources.
Dave was awarded the Freedom of the City of London in 2010, received the Lifetime Contribution to Training Award from the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers in 2015, and in 2026 was recognised as a Master Plasterer.
Today, alongside his writing and continuing passion for the craft, Dave co-hosts The Plasterers Podcast – The Mick & Dave Show, bringing together plasterers, craftspeople, educators and some of the great characters of the trade from the UK, USA and beyond.
For Dave, the podcast is about something very simple — keeping the knowledge, stories and traditions of plastering alive and passing them on to the next generation.
Mr Mick Hargreaves – Master Plasterer, Educator, Author & Podcast Host
Mick Hargreaves is a Master Plasterer with more than 35 years of experience in the plastering industry, combining a lifetime of practical knowledge with many years spent teaching the trade to others.
His career has taken him from working on the tools and running his own business to teaching plastering in Further Education and managing plastering courses, giving Mick experience of the trade from both sides of the classroom door.
But Mick has never lost touch with where it all started — on the tools. His practical approach, straight-talking style and belief that the best knowledge comes from actually doing the job have remained at the heart of his career.
In 2026, Mick’s contribution, experience and craftsmanship were recognised when he became a Master Plasterer through the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers.
Today Mick co-hosts The Plasterers Podcast – The Mick & Dave Show, where his years of experience, sense of humour and willingness to say things as they are have become a big part of the show’s character.
Together, Mick and Dave bring decades of experience from the building site, the classroom and the plastering industry to the microphones.
No corporate scripts. No pretending.
Just two plasterers talking about the trade they have spent their lives in — with plenty of stories, opinions, laughs and the occasional cock-up along the way.
